Serena Williams completed a remarkable comeback to Tennis with a comprehensive victory over Maria Sharapova in the Women’s Final at the Australian Open
A former two-time winner of the Australian Open, Williams claimed her eighth Grand Slam title with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over a stunned Sharapova.
Williams became only the second unseeded Australian Open champion and first since Chris O’Neil won the title in 1978.
Ironically, yesterday saw Williams claim her first WTA Tour title since winning her second Australian Open title at the 2005 tournament.
