World Number 1 Roger Federer demolished American Andy Roddick in straight sets 6-4, 6-0, 6-2 to reach the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne.

Federer was at his awesome best after falling behind 4-3 in the opening set. He then went on to win 15 of the next 17 games to book his second straight final appearance at on Rod Laver Arena.

Federer told Jim Courier afterwards, "I was really worried going into this match, he had been playing so well. I played incredibly well,"

"I had one of those days where everything worked. It's just unreal, I'm shocked myself, I don't know what to say."

It was the ninth consecutive win over the sixth seeded Roddick with Federer now poised to claim his 10t Grand Slam title in Sunday’s final against either 10th seeded Fernando Gonzalez of Chile or the No. 12 seed Tommy Haas from Germany.

Federer won all seven break points against Roddick on the way to extending his win streak to 35 matches, his last loss in August 2006.
