Mewing unsuccessful in Beijing bid

09 May, 2008

Australian swimmer Andrew Mewing's bid to make the Beijing Olympic team has failed after his appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) was unsuccessful.

Mewing finished eighth in the 200m freestyle final at the Olympic trials in Sydney in March.

Swimming Australia (SA) nominated the first seven place getters from the 200m freestyle final among the 42-member team for the Beijing Games from August 8-24.

A SA statement said: "CAS found that Swimming Australia had correctly interpreted the relay-only selection criteria and consequently dismissed Mewing's appeal".
