Houston beat Cubs 7-2
05 July, 2006
43-year-old Roger Clemens got his first win since returning to the Houston Astros. The seven-time Cy Young Award winner allowed just two runs and four hits as he struck out five in five innings on Monday night to lead the Houston Astros to a 7-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Clemens may have got the win but he struggled on the mound throughout. Chicago tied it up in the third with Clemens throwing over a 100 pitches in five innings before leaving the game having thrown 115 in seven.
Clemens said. "All in all, it was a good game. The guys hit the ball, and that was a lot of fun to see."
The guys don’t usually hit the ball when Clemens pitches. Craig Biggio who hit his 48th leadoff homer said, "It's always nice to get a good start like that for someone we have had trouble scoring runs for,"
"It's hard to explain. It's not from lack of trying. It's just part of the game."
Game 3 is today with Andy Pettitte looking to avoid a three game losing streak when the Astros take on the Cubs at Minute Maid Park.
